We all have come across so much material about stress management that anything more said or written about it sounds redundant. Despite that the importance of stress management cannot be overemphasized. And organizations recognize this for the health of their employees and hence their own health.
Some steps that organizations are taking to prevent stress for their employees, thereby ensuring maximum productivity of the employees, are:
Flat Hierarchy: Most organizations today boast of flat hierarchy or a friendly environment at the workplace at least, where subordinates can approach their superiors easily. This kind of an atmosphere makes it much simpler for employees of all levels to resolve issues. In organizations where strict hierarchy is followed even in the internal matters of the company, it is very stressful for the subordinates to reach out to their bosses.
Fair Distribution of Work: Most organizations ensure that the workload is equally divided and there are checks and metrics in place to gauge whether all members in a team are performing equally well. This prevents any dissatisfaction or stress that might arise due to unfair distribution of work.
Adequate Compensation: Many a time, a sense of being underpaid can cause stress and companies today try to avoid that by paying their employees well in cash and in perks.
Adequate Growth Opportunities: Stagnation in growth is another factor for causing stress among employees. Companies try to make sure that the career path is made clear to the employee in the beginning itself and also as much growth opportunities as possible within the organization, are made available to the employees.
Accommodation and Travel: Arranging these basic amenities can cause stress especially when the employee is relocated to a new foreign location. Companies usually not only provide these facilities but also pay accordingly so that the employee can focus his energies completely on work.
Security: For women especially, if the job involves travelling or meeting strangers everyday, companies ensure that safety is taken care of. Also within the organization, maintaining a healthy and decent work environment helps to reduce stress levels.
Recreation Activities: There are recreation facilities ranging from sports, gym, marathons to music and art also, that help the employees get rid of their stress.
These are some initiatives that companies take to keep their employees stress free. Undoubtedly, there is investment involved in all of this. But the companies look at the long-term benefit reaped from this investment by keeping the employees happy and therefore highly productive.
